During the Great Depression various makeshift homes were built in the area. Today, along with La Perouse, the area has visible Indigenous ownership and promotion of their culture can be seen with various events and tours of the land.
Port Botany is a busy road and rail port serving not only Sydney but all of New South Wales. It is the site of the first landing of Captain Cook in 1770. The container terminal and bulk liquids facility, together with the nearby Domestic and International airports, make up Sydney’s thriving trading centre.
